Movie Review: Hangover Part II

Our friend, Chino, celebrated his birthday last June 11. The tropa met up at Glorietta, had dinner at Max’s (chicken all-you-can!) and then watched Hangover 2. Below is our personal review of this movie.

This is a spoiler-free review.

The Trailer

the hangover part 2The Plot

Two years after the Las Vegas incident, Stu (Ed Helms) is getting married in Thailand to Lauren (Jamie Chung). He invites his friends Phil (Bradley Cooper), Doug (Justin Bartha) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and flew to Thailand together with Teddy (Mason Lee), Stu’s soon-to-be brother-in-law. Stu insists on having just a simple bachelor brunch to avoid a repeat of Las Vegas (a.k.a. The Hangover Part I). However, what was supposed to be a simple one-bottle drink around the bonfire with the ‘wolfpack’ (as Alan fondly calls the group) turned out to be a night in Thailand they will never forget they can’t remember.

Our Thoughts
y: Super laugh-out-loud funny! Some sequels don’t work because they lack the originality and the spice of the first movie. The Hangover Part 2 actually has the exact same plot and story-flow as the first installment, but I think that’s what made it funnier. The only difference is that it’s set in Bangkok. Never knew Bangkok could rival Las Vegas in terms of stupid things a bunch of guys can do, but yeah. You know how sometimes you watch a comedy and when you step out of the cinema, you feel bitin and wish you’d just downloaded a copy online? Well, I definitely feel like I spent good money for 1.5 hours of solid nonstop laughing.Smile Warning though, it’s grosser than the first movie.haha

e: This movie is a must-watch! Although I couldn’t remember most of the details of the first installment, it was definitely not a hindrance for me to enjoy this movie. I kept laughing at almost every scene. In fact, I even started to giggle in my seat a couple of times just anticipating what will happen, without anything happening yet!

There were a couple of elements which were the same as the first movie, from the time lapse videos to indicate the night they could not remember, to a wedding they will almost miss, to animals coming out of nowhere, to Stu playing and singing about their experience at the middle of the movie (I have always been a fan of Ed Helms’ humor from The Office) to the scandalous pictures at the end. These similarities bring you back to the prequel and make you remember the funny moments back then.

Zach (who played Alan) was witty as always. He never failed to lighten the mood despite the predicaments they are in throughout the movie.

I think this one is better than the first one, although I didn’t really enjoy Mike Tyson’s “part” of this movie. We got so hooked with the movie that we watched the first installment again just to be able to make sense out of the some of the details and just complete the whole experience. If you love laughing, then this is a movie for you! Smile
